Garbage...

Last month Allison did a whole unit on recycling... the children were asked to bring in garbage from home. I had not idea what for, but I complied. A few weeks later, Allison came home with this masterpiece. They had to create something out of the garbage. My girlfriends daughter Ava came home with a annimal made from a bottle of water. Allison came home with this.... It is a school, according to her. I actuall feel really bad, because initially I took a look and said what am I going to do with this big thing, not at all full appreciating her creativity. It sat in her room for a couple of weeks, before I thought I need to throw this out... so I brought it in the Kitchen to take some pictures (a way to keep memories, but not all the stuff- saw that great idea in Family Fun magazine a few years ago) As I really looked it over, I realized all the work and creativity she used. In the picture above you can see she used a soda can and plastic lid to make a clock tower, she used a shoe box top to make the school sign and a papertowel roll and paper to make a flagpole! It is when you open it up you see the real treasure. the "school" was made from a old box that held crayons, so there were all ready dividers.
Each sections represents a classroom, that has been labeled with numbers! You can see that classroom 16 is having a party- hence the balloons.
Under each of the signs for the classroom numbers, were bottlecaps.... according to Allison these are the students and she took the time to label the classroom with the "teachers name" Here you see Mrs. Leute
and here Mrs. Breunig, under some of the others were Mrs. Ava, Mrs. Sophia, Mrs. Meg (these are the name of her classmates.) After taking my time and really looking at what she created, I don't know if I can throw it out, it is now sitting a shelf in the playroom!
Last Friday was Pirate day! Ahoy there matey... walk the plank! ARRRRR
